HC Deb 03 February 1947 vol 432 c287W
92. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the increased costs and waste, he will forthwith cease the direction of shipping tonnage.

Mr. Barnes

No, Sir, and I do not accept the implication in the Question. I have already been able to free shipment of a number of commodities from direction, but conditions affecting availability of other important hulk commodities are not yet such as to permit me to dispense for the time being with direction of shipping for their transport.
