HC Deb 15 December 1947 vol 445 cc273-4W
75. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Food under what power he prohibited the movement of home grown carrots into Scotland, Northumberland, Durham, Cumberland, Westmorland, Lancashire, and Cheshire from any other part of England and Wales as from 8th December, 1947; and whether there was a resulting scarcity in the areas mentioned; and what steps he is taking to mitigate the scarcity.

Mr. Strachey

The free movement of carrots into the areas mentioned was prohibited by an order made under the Defence Regulations. There has been no scarcity of carrots in these areas as, pending the arrival of imports from Denmark, my Department has maintained supplies to the extent necessary.
