Mr. Burkeasked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that as a result of the Government's decision to curtail production of jet engines at Hargher Clough Works, Burnley, hundreds of skilled engineers will be unemployed; and if the Government's policy is to use powers of direction to send these men from their homes or to bring work to the district by patting to new use the valuable Government machinery installed at Hargher Clough Works.
§ Mr. IsaacsThe reply of my right hon. Friend, the Minister of Supply, to two questions on this subject yesterday, pointed out that only about 75 skilled men are likely to be affected. I understand that there are at present sufficient important vacancies in surrounding areas within daily travelling distance to absorb these skilled men.
