§ Mr. Dodds-Parkerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make a statement on the proposed plan for hydro-electric development for 161W Uganda; and whether it is proposed that the Government of Uganda shall acquire the interests of the East Africa Power and Lighting Company in that Protectorate.
Mr. Creech JonesThe Government of Uganda proposes to construct a hydroelectric power station at the Owen Falls, on the Victoria Nile. It is not expected that this station will be completed before 1952 and as an interim measure, pending the completion of the first stage of the development of the power station, it is proposed to erect two temporary thermal power stations, one at Kampala, the other at Jinja. The answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.
