HC Deb 04 August 1947 vol 441 cc115-6W
Mr. Anthony Greenwood

asked the Minister of Food how many children are entitled to receive orange juice; and in how many cases advantage is taken of this facility.

Mr. Strachey

The number of children entitled at 28th June, 1947, to receive orange juice was 3,960,153. Although the actual distribution in June, 1947, to children and expectant mothers was 49 per cent. of their full entitlement, the number of individuals participating is not known, as many do not take their full quantities.

Mr. Anthony Greenwood

asked the Minister of Food what amount of orange juice' would be needed each month if all children entitled to it took full advantage of this facility; and how much orange juice is distributed to children each month.

Mr. Strachey

Just over nine million 6 02. bottles of orange juice would be required each four weeks if all children and expectant mothers took full advantage of their entitlement. The actual quantity distributed varies from month to month but in June, 1947, it was 49 per cent. of the potential.
