Mr. Thorton-Kemsleyasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if it is in accordance with the policy of the Depart 196W ment of Education that members of the staffs of school meals schemes should be dismissed if they are over 45 years of age, on account of their ineligibility to participate in local authorities' superannuation schemes.
§ Mr. WestwoodThe dismissal of local authority staff is a matter committed by Statute to the discretion of the local authority, and I have no power to interfere. However, there is nothing in the Local Government Superannuation (Scotland) Acts which makes the staffs of school meals schemes ineligible to participate in a superannuation fund under those Acts because they are over 45 years of age.
