§ Sir E. Graham-Littleasked the Minister of Health if he will now announce the result of his inquiry into the administration of the Portwey hospital.
§ Mr. BevanI have been informed by the county council of the difficulties of administering this hospital, which are mainly due to the shortage of nurses and the closure of wards. The proper remedy is for the council to continue its efforts to recruit nurses so as to make more beds available to meet the urgent demands in the district, and thereby to reduce the cost of treatment per patient.
