HC Deb 21 April 1947 vol 436 c55W
5. Sir D. White

asked the Minister of Transport when he proposes to start work on that section of the South Coast road, TR. 37, from Bassett to Ower, with a connecting link to Southampton, with a view to relieving traffic congestion in Winchester and Christchurch.

Mr. Barnes

The South Coast road TR. 37 became a trunk road on 1st April, 1946, and preliminary surveys have been undertaken to determine whether it should be diverted in the neighbourhood of Southampton further to the north near Betley, Bassett and Ower. No decision on this proposal has yet been reached.
