HC Deb 03 April 1947 vol 435 cc362-3W
Sir W. Darling

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if any estimate has been made by the Forestry Commissioners of the amount of sawn scrap timber left over from forestry operations in Scotland; and if any steps are being taken to have this sawn and transported for fuel purposes.

Mr. Westwood

The operation of sawmills is now, generally speaking, in the hands of private enterprise and the Forestry Commissioners have no means of making a precise estimate of sawn scrap timber. The utilisation of waste wood as fuel is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Fuel and Power, who informs me that all practicable steps will continue to be taken to secure the fullest use of all suitable material for fuel purposes.
