HC Deb 02 April 1947 vol 435 c324W
93. Mr. Skeffington

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what communication has been received from the Turkish minority in Cyprus dealing with union with Greece; whether it has been sent by representative organisations; and on what grounds union is opposed.

Mr. Creech Jones

Communications have been received from organisations representing different sections of opinion in the Turkish community in Cyprus. They expressed concern at any prospect of union with Greece, on the ground, I understand, of apprehension regarding the treatment of minorities in that event, and welcomed the statement of a forward policy of welfare and development which I made in reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Taunton (Mr. Collins) on 23rd October last.
