HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 c288W
94. Mr. Ward

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give an assurance that no foreign gloves will be imported into this country until British glove manufacturers can obtain sufficient supplies of leather and other raw materials to expand the glove industry and offer employment to British craftsmen.

Sir S. Cripps

The limited imports of gloves which we are at present admitting have no adverse effect upon raw material supplies or employment in the British glove industry. I am not, therefore, prepared to impose the restriction suggested by the hon. Member.
