HC Deb 21 November 1946 vol 430 c158W
93. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Health whether it is his intention to set up a rent tribunal in South Wales.

Mr. Bevan

Three rent tribunals under the Furnished Houses (Rent Control) Act, 1946, have been appointed for South Wales and one for Monmouthshire, covering the districts of 47 local authorities in the area who have asked for the application of the Act.

94. Mr. Teeling

asked the Minister of Health to what extent there has been unnecessary delay in opening rent tribunals, long ago promised in Brighton and Hove; and when they are likely to be opened.

Mr. Bevan

There has been no unnecessary delay. Exceptional difficulty was experienced in finding suitable office premises for the rent tribunal to serve Brighton, Hove and other districts in Sussex, but I am glad to say that the necessary order has been made under the Furnished Houses (Rent Control) Act and the tribunal has been in operation since 11th November.
