HC Deb 21 November 1946 vol 430 cc178-9W
158. Sir C. Edwards

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he is aware of the serious flooding from the River Ebbw at the Ebbw Bridge, Bassaleg, near Newport, Monmouthshire; and if he will consider bringing in, at the earliest possible moment, the River Boards Bill in accordance with his promise to the county council and the catchment board.

Mr. T. Williams

I am aware that serious flooding from the River Ebbw sometimes occurs near Newport. With regard to the second part of the Question, other claims on Parliamentary time are such that there is no immediate prospect of legislation being introduced to set up river boards. I am accordingly ready to entertain suggestions from the local authorities concerned for the setting up of a catchment area and board to deal with the drainage problems in this district and am arranging for a letter to be sent to the Monmouthshire County Council accordingly.
