§ 113. Squadron-Leader Kinghornasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will issue an order to the officials of the Herring Industry Board that a larger proportion of the export surplus of the present herring catches at Great Yarmouth be allocated to the local exporters whose trade brings sterling into the country.
§ Mr. WestwoodNo, Sir. The herring industry board are not subject to my directions in this matter. They assure me, however, that the requirements of local exporters are given due consideration along with others and in fact the allocation of herring for redding, in which the local exporters are primarily interested, amounts to almost one half of the allocation for pickle curing and the export of fresh herring combined. Up to the present, supplies for these purposes have unfortunately been limited, but with a continuance of the heavier landings which are now being made there should be ample supplies for all purposes.
