HC Deb 06 November 1946 vol 428 c248W
61. Mr. W. Shepherd

asked the Minister of Food how many six-ounce medical bottles are, on the average, returned weekly by users of orange juice, etc.; and what additional quantity would be saved weekly if it were made obligatory for users to return the empty bottle before obtaining a fresh one.

Mr. Strachey

About 550,000 bottles are returned weekly by users of orange juice and cod liver oil. If the return of an empty bottle were made a condition of receiving fresh supplies, a further 600,000 would be saved.
