HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 c172W
80. Mr. Pickthorn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is being done to facilitate the distribution of British films in the Balkan countries and to secure the rights of the owners of films so distributed.

Mr. Mayhew

In order to overcome the present currency exchange difficulties in certain Balkan countries, a scheme has been devised whereby His Majesty's Government would buy outright from British producers a selection of films which would then be sold to local distributors, or to the Government agency which controls distribution, in the countries concerned. The details of this scheme are now being worked out and should result in the showing of about 12 British feature films in a period of 12 months.
