HC Deb 01 November 1946 vol 428 c158W
Lieut.-Colonel Kingsmill

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many telephone, telegraph and electric light poles are held by Government Departments and are not in use at the present time.

Sir S. Cripps

Apart from poles issued but not yet erected, the number of which, of course, varies from day to day, and a quantity of poles held by the Timber Control, mainly for seasoning, the stock of telephone, telegraph and electric light poles held by Government Departments at the present time amounts to 140,000, of which the majority are unsuitable for use as electric light poles.
