HC Deb 16 May 1946 vol 422 c267W
8. Mr. Palmer

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware of the shortage of hospital accommodation for expectant mothers in the county of Surrey; and whether he is taking steps to improve the situation in the near future.

Mr. Bevan:

Unfortunately, there is a shortage of staffed maternity beds all over the country. In Surrey, 53 more beds will be available shortly, and proposals for the provision of a further 86 at various voluntary hospitals in the county are under consideration.
