asked the Minister of Works the number of rooms formerly used for residential purposes now occupied by Government Departments in Edinburgh.

Mr. Tomlinson:

I regret that no accurate information is available as to the extent to which accommodation now occupied by Government Departments in the city of Edinburgh was formerly in use for residential purposes, but the number of rooms so occupied is estimated at approximately 750. I should add that this figure includes hotels and boarding houses in addition to dwelling houses but excludes rooms occupied by the Service Departments.
