HC Deb 13 May 1946 vol 422 cc138-9W
53. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he is aware that over 100 acres of good farm land cannot be properly cultivated in the River Bain basin, Lincolnshire, because of inadequate drainage; and what steps he proposes to take in the immediate future to put this matter right.

Mr. T. Williams:

I am aware that some agricultural land in the River Bain basin is in need of improved drainage. The catchment board in whose area the greater part of the watercourse is situated have submitted for my approval proposals for the improvement of the river. Owing to the shortage of materials and labour a comprehensive scheme cannot be undertaken at present, but the catchment board hope shortly to put in hand work at specific points where agricultural land will derive immediate benefit.
