HL Deb 07 May 1946 vol 141 c54WA
THE EARL OF MANSFIELD

asked His Majesty's Government if they will state the number of persons for whom permanent employment will be afforded by the Admiralty storehouses, etc., now under construction near Almondbank, Perthshire; what proportion of these will be respectively naval personnel, naval pensioners or disabled men and civilians, and how many women will the last-named include; also what additional housing accommodation will be required, and by whom it is suggested that it be provided.

LORD WESTWOOD

The number of persons at present employed at this Establishment is somewhat in excess of the eventual permanent requirement which, while it cannot yet be stated with certainty, is thought will be approximately as follows:

All Civilians
Naval Store Depot
Directing and Clerical Staff 180
Storehouse Staff 700
Workshops
Naval Officer-in-Charge 1
Clerical Staff 8
Workpeople 300

It is not possible at present to forecast the numbers of naval pensioners, disabled men, and women, nor to say what additional housing accommodation will be needed, or how it will be provided, but it is expected that most of the workpeople will be recruited locally.
