HC Deb 06 May 1946 vol 422 c48W
87. Mr. O'Brien

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that women show repugnance to wearing stockings which are not fully fashioned; and if he will give an assurance that, in future, enough fully-fashioned women's stockings will be made from nylon and other materials to supply the demand.

Mr. Belcher:

I am aware that many women have a very high regard for fully fashioned stockings; but I am afraid I cannot promise production on the scale suggested by my hon. Friend, which would be vastly in excess of prewar. In 1938, about 2½ pairs of seamless stockings were sold in this country for every pair of fully fashioned; and approximately half those fully fashioned were imported.
