HC Deb 21 March 1946 vol 420 c407W
82. Mr. Lipson

asked the Minister of Education if she will consider assigning all the places in teachers' training colleges for the next three years, to applicants from the Forces who wish to take the one year's emergency course for teachers.

Miss Wilkinson

A high degree of priority is given to applicants from the Forces in filling the available places in emergency teachers' training colleges. It would not, however, be possible to give them all the places without injustice to candidates who have been engaged in other forms of national service during the war. I could not contemplate turning over the permanent training colleges entirely for the use of ex-Service candidates as ft is of over-riding importance from the long-term point of view to maintain and expand the normal flow of recruits to the teaching profession from schools and universities.
