§ 138. Sir R. Youngasked the Secretary of State for War on what grounds the request for facilities to enable German prisoners to hold religious services in Quorn, Leicestershire, parish church, was refused; and whether similar requests to other church councils or religious bodies have also been refused.
§ Mr. BellengerThere is no objection so far as the War Office is concerned to services for German prisoners of war being held in local churches provided that the vicar or priest and the church council concerned are willing for them to be held. In the particular case in question I understand that the refusal was by the parochial church council. No similar requests have been refused by the War Office since VE-Day.
