HC Deb 04 March 1946 vol 420 c14W
96. Mr. E. Fletcher

asked the Minister of War Transport whether he is aware of the intolerable position created in Islington and elsewhere by the failure of his Department to provide rolling stock for the transport of refuse from the Islington Borough Council's depots, with the result that in some parts of the borough there has been no collection of refuse for several weeks; and what steps he is taking to correct this.

Mr. Barnes

This matter has recently been the subject of discussion with the Ministry of Health, the Borough Council and the railway company, who were asked to pay special attention to the traffic. I am informed that all arrears of refuse were cleared from the depot by 23rd February, and that the refuse is now being cleared currently.
