HC Deb 04 March 1946 vol 420 c1W
6 Mr. Touche

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the shortage of leather for providing soles for shoes, particularly in the borough of Reigate; and whether any steps are being taken to improve the supply.

Sir S. Cripps

The shortage of leather has made it necessary to restrict shoe repairers and shops selling leather for home repairs to 60 per cent. of their usage in 1940–41. I am glad to say that this quota will be increased to 66.2/3rd per cent. on 1st April. If there are any cases in Reigate in which the full quota is not being received, I will look into them at once.
