§ 66. Major Legge-Bourke
asked the Minister of Education how many local education authorities do not give the maximum period of 12 weeks, plus 10 days for mid-term and other occasional holidays; and what steps she is now taking to obtain uniformity, bearing in mind time spent on homework and other school activities by the pupils and on correcting, assessing and preparing lessons by the teachers.
§ Mr. Hardman
I cannot supply precise figures, but my information is that the number is small. In reply to the latter part of the question interim recommendations made by the Association of Educa-362W tion Committees in consultation with teachers have been issued which it is proposed to follow by final recommendations in the light of experience. The matter is primarily for the discretion of local education authorities, but I shall continue to keep closely in touch with developments.
