§ 121. Mr. Hastingsasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the District Railway trains running between London and Barking are always overcrowded, especially at the rush hours; and whether he will take steps to improve the ventilation in these trains.
§ Mr. BarnesI am aware that trains on this line are heavily loaded during peak hours. The service is the best that can be provided with the rolling stock at present available. When the London Passenger Transport Board have been able to obtain new stock it is the intention to increase the accommodation at peak hours. There are several types of coach in use and the ventilation in the more modern type can be improved by opening the windows at each end of the coach. This feature will be embodied in all new rolling stock.
