70. Mr. McKie
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many Cruden houses he proposes to allot to the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, and county of Wigtown, respectively.

§ Mr. Buchanan
The councils of the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright and the county of Wigtown have each been offered l00 Cruden houses. In addition, the small burghs in Kirkcudbright have been offered a total of 44 houses and those in Wigtown 54.

§ 71. Mr. Henderson Stewart
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that, on account of the delays imposed by the Department of Health in insisting upon approving each site, the terms of each purchase, the type of house, the layout and the acceptance of the contract, three schemes in East Fife, at Lower Largo, Kingskettle and Freuchie, for which application was originally made by the Fife County Council in September last year, have not yet reached the stage where any building has been commenced; of the widespread public indignation on account of these delays; and what steps 285W he is taking to prevent bureaucratic interference with the performance of the duties of the Fife County Housing Authority.

I give below a statement giving the relevant dates, which show that most of the time since September was occupied by the council themselves in necessary preparatory work between the different stages of the schemes. House tenders were approved for two of the schemes towards the end of April and for the third scheme, after
