HL Deb 26 July 1946 vol 142 c1025WA
THE EARL OF AIRLIE

asked His Majesty's Government the reason for the leave from the B.A.O.R. being curtailed to once every six months only and whether it is considered that this is in the best interests of officers and men and the morale of the Army generally.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (LORD NATHAN)

The principal reason is the need for releasing shipping to its normal uses. The period of each leave has been increased to nineteen days and I am not aware of, nor do I anticipate, any decline in the morale of the Army as the result of the leave policy.

House adjourned at twenty minutes before one o'clock.
