§ 79. Mr. Rees-Williamsasked the Secretary of State for War whether he will amend the regulations so as to increase the grants of £10 towards funeral expenses and undertakers' charges now made by the Army Council to the next of kin of soldiers killed in this country on duty, in view of the fact that this sum is inadequate under existing circumstances.
§ Mr. LawsonNo, Sir. The object of this allowance which is not restricted to Army cases, is to assist relatives to defray the burial expenses when they themselves choose to be responsible for the funeral arrangements and I am satisfied that it is adequate for that purpose. It was increased to the present figure during the war.
