HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 c355W
Mr. De la Bère

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the Government will now issue greatcoats to the Army Cadet Corps, in view of the large number of greatcoats which have become available as a result of the releases from the Army.

Mr. Lawson

This matter is still under consideration, in connection with other commitments and liabilities.

Sir G. Jeffreys

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the charges proposed for the issue of.303 blank ammunition to the Army cadet forces will be burdensome and will be resented by cadet associations; and whether, as the use of blank ammunition makes exercises more realistic, he will authorise the issue of a reasonable amount of blank ammunition free of charge to cadet units.

Mr. Lawson

The price charged for this ammunition represents its cost to the State. While blank ammunition undoubtedly adds realism to exercises, I do not consider that it can be regarded as essential for the training of Army Cadets. I do not therefore feel that a free issue of.303" blank would be justified.
