§ Mr. M. MacMillanasked the Minister of War Transport whether, in view of the hardship caused to the people of Bernera through lack of a short and inexpensive causeway to link the island with the Isle of Lewis, and in view of the danger and pain to hospital cases taken to Stornoway in a small ferry boat and the fact that all goods and all peat fuel have to be carried by sea and land and livestock forced to swim the narrows, he will take steps to see that this proposed causeway is given highest priority in State-assisted schemes.
