Glynasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the cost of providing accommodation and services in Cypus of illegal Jewish immigrants; and whether the Colonial Office Vote will be increased, or in what manner and how soon will the revised estimate be prepared to cover present and future expenditure.
Mr. Creech JonesThe total estimated expenditure on the Cyprus camps for illegal Jewish immigrants from the date of their opening in August until the end of the current financial year is some £1,900,000. Of this figure, £1,160,000 is the estimated capital expenditure on the preparation and erection of the camps; and the balance is the cost of maintenance and other services; This expenditure will be met by the Government of Palestine.
