§ 89. Mr. D. Griffithsasked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware of the public concern at the increase in the number of certified cases of dermatitis among coalminers; and what steps he is taking to prevent the increase of this disease.
§ Mr. ShinwellThe increased number of certified cases of dermatitis amongst coal-miners has for some time received the close attention of the mines medical officers, who make a point of investigating mines known to be particularly affected and suggest preventive measures. I am advised that the prompt treatment of minor skin abrasions and other possible indications of the early stages of the disease is most important, and the provision of medical treatment centres with qualified nurses at mines, which has now started, will assist in this direction.
