§ Mr. Heathcoat Amoryasked the Minister of Labour whether, in order to permit the earlier demobilisation of those now in the Forces with long periods of service, whose release has recently been deferred, he will carry out a comb-out of men between 20 and 30 years of age, including men released in Class B, who have since left the industry for which their early release was given.
§ Mr. IsaacsThe policy of the Government has been, and still is, to call up as many young men as possible so as to facilitate the release of men who have already served for long periods in the Forces. As explained in paragraph 4 of the White Paper, Cmd. 6831, there has been a continuing and severe comb-out of 209W all men who are over 18 and under 30 years of age and who are still in civil life. As regards men released from the Forces in Class B, the number who leave the industry for which they were released before their special obligation has ceased is small, but steps are taken to effect recall in appropriate cases.
