§ 74. Mr. Gallacherasked the Minister of Works if he is aware that housing is being held up at Leven, Fife, because his Department insists on English tiles while local tile works are stored to capacity; and why these tiles are not being used.
§ Mr. WestwoodI have been asked to reply. I am informed that locally manufactured tiles are in fact being used on the scheme to which the hon. Member refers. My Department have never insisted on the use of English tiles.
§ Mr. Gallacherasked the Minister of Works if he is aware that there are three houses at Kennoway, Fife, which have been ready for tiling for a month; that there are 50,000 tiles on the site but they cannot be used because they are the wrong colour; and if he will make a statement on this matter.
§ Mr. WestwoodI have been asked to reply. The three blocks of houses referred to are part of a scheme of 102 houses, which for reasons of good appearance, the county council wish to tile in various colours. I am informed that while there was a delay of' some ten days in the delivery of Marley tiles, which are manufactured in Scotland and for which the council placed a bulk order, and also some delay in the delivery of tile straps, tiling is now in progress and should be completed at an early date.
