HC Deb 09 December 1946 vol 431 c179W
108. Dr. Segal

asked the Minister of Labour the number of man-hours lost by the City of Oxford Bus Company during each of the last three years owing to labour disputes; and what have been the main causes of these disputes.

Mr. Ness Edwards

The numbers of man-days lost through stoppages of work owing to industrial disputes affecting the City of Oxford Bus Company have been approximately 230 in 1944, 160 in 1945 and 150 this year. The dispute in 1944 arose mainly through dissatisfaction with canteen facilities. In 1945 there was a stoppage arising from the prosecution by the management of three conductresses and a further short stoppage resulting from the discharge of a conductress for misconduct. The stoppage this year arose out of disagreement on questions relating to the guaranteed week and paid holidays.
