Mr. N. Macpherson

asked the Minister of Agriculture the areas under cereal crop and potato crop, respectively, in 1945 in Cumberland and Westmorland, respectively; and what was the nature and purchase value of the agricultural equipment held by the A.E.C for the use of farmers in each of these counties.

The areas under cereal crops and potatoes in 1945 in Cumberland and Westmorland were as follow:

The agricultural machinery held by the Cumberland W.A.E.C. in 1945 included 148 agricultural tractors of various classes together with a complement of other machinery for cultivating and harvesting work, the cost of which was approximately £84,000. The Westmorland W.A.E.C. held 64 agricultural tractors and other agricultural machinery costing £38,000.

This machinery was available for cultivating lands in possession, for contract work undertaken by the Committees or for hire to farmers or contractors.
