§ Mr. C. Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what the proceeds are of the tax on bicycles in the Seychelles; and whether he is satisfied that its return justifies this imposition of tax on the cheapest form of transport available.
Mr. Creech JonesThe revenue derived from bicycle licences in the Seychelles in 1945 was Rs. 2,226. The present tax has been in force since 1923, and I am advised that no undue hardship results. The tax resources of Seychelles are limited.
