HC Deb 02 December 1946 vol 431 c7W
62. Captain Crowder

asked the Minister of Transport if he will make arrangements for workmen's tickets at reduced fares to be available on petrol omnibuses in the same way as they are available on the other services run by the L.P.T.B.

Mr. Barnes

Apart from other difficulties, the extension of workmen's fares to the Board's omnibuses would be likely to attract large numbers of passengers who now travel by other forms of transport, and would thus upset the existing traffic distribution during peak hours and seriously add to present transport difficulties in London. Moreover, there would result a loss of revenue which would have to be made good by increasing fares to other passengers. I regret, therefore, that I cannot adopt the suggestion in the Question.
