HC Deb 02 December 1946 vol 431 c15W
Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Minister of Works what action is taken by his Department to prevent speculators buying up huts held by his Department for disposal

Mr. Tomlinson

The procedure adopted for the disposal of huts should make it difficult for speculators to operate. It is the practice first to offer huts to the owner of the site if he gives an assurance that he requires them for use on his own property and not for resale. Huts not wanted by the site owner are sold for removal off the site to people or organisations who are known to require the huts for their own use and whose need is sponsored by a Government Department. The remaining huts are sold by tender.
