Mr. Kinģsmillasked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the immediate appointment of a commission to investigate the future of broadcasting in this country, with especial reference to the possible introduction of commercially sponsored programmes.
§ The Prime Minister:No, Sir. As stated in answer to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for West Leicester (Mr. Janner) on 19th February, the Government has given the fullest consideration to the appointment of a commission to consider the future of broadcasting in this country, and has decided that no independent investigation is necessary The question of permitting commercially sponsored programmes was fully considered when this decision was made.
