§ 70. Mr. Willisasked the Secretary of State for Scotland, if the ratio of houses built for sale as compared with houses built to let which has been accepted for Edinburgh represents the general policy in this matter for the whole of Scotland.
§ Mr. Buchanan:As the recent White Paper shows, tenders had been approved at 28th February, 1946, for 20,061 houses while the number of houses licensed by local authorities for erection by private enterprise was only 574. It has, therefore, not been necessary to consider the general question of limiting private building in Scotland but should this become necessary in any particular area in the interests of progress with the building of houses to let; I shall certainly take the matter up with the authority.
