HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c302W
Mr. J. Lewis

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that there is insufficient restaurant accommodation for third-class passengers on main line trains throughout the country, and will he take steps to see that facilities provided for first-class passengers in this respect shall he accorded to third-class passengers also.

Mr. Barnes:

At the present time the railways can run only a limited service of restaurant cars but they endeavour to cater for both 1st and 3rd class passengers and on many trains both classes use the same restaurant cars. I am not aware of any discrimination in this matter between 1st and 3rd class passengers. If my hon. Friend has any particular case in mind and will let me know, I will have inquiries made.
