asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what advice or instructions he has issued to standing joint committees or chief constables as to the position of the wives of police officers desiring to stand for election to a local authority.

Mr. Ede:

None, Sir. It is open to the wife of any police officer to stand for election to a local authority.
