asked the Minister of Labour how many building trade operatives have been released from VE-Day to date; and how many still remain in the Armed Forces.

Mr. Ness Edwards:

The number of building trade operatives (excluding general labourers) released front the Forces between VE-Day and the end of February. 1946, is estimated at about 250,000. As regards the second part of the Question, I would refer the hon Member to my right hon. Friend's answer to the hon. Member for Kingston-upon-Thames (Mr. Boyd-Carpenter) on 12th March, a copy of which I am sending him.
