HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 cc148-9W
Mr. Viant

asked the Secretary of State for War how many cases of enteric fever and deaths from that disease have occurred in British Armies throughout the world during the recent war.

Mr. Lawson:

I regret that complete figures are not immediately available, but the following figures give the number of cases during the periods stated for four Commands:

United Kingdom (September, 1939-December, 1945) 210
M.E.F. (1941–1944) 789
(87 deaths)
C.M.F. (1943–1945) 622
B.A.O.R. (July-December 1945) 29
1,650

Except in the case of M.E.F., no figures of deaths are available. The figures relate to the enteric group of diseases, which includes Typhoid fever, Paratyphoid fever A, B and C, and "Clinical Typhoid."
