HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 cc182-3W
155. Mr. Emrys Huģhes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered representations from the Town Council of Irvine calling attention to the growing unemployment problem in Ayrshire, caused by the closing down of war industries, and making proposals for the planning and development of new industries in the county; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

Mr. Westwood:

A letter from the Town Clerk of Irvine making certain proposals for the maintenance of employment in the Burgh and surrounding locality has recently been received in my Department and has been referred for consideration and report to the Scottish Regional Board for Industry, which, under the general responsibility of my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade, advises the Government on industrial conditions in Scotland and upon steps which may be necessary to bring resources in capacity or labour into fuller use.
