§ Mr. W. Shepherdasked the Minister of Food if he will give an estimate of the percentage of saving in bread consumption which would be necessary to avoid any reduction in the supplies of animal feedings stuffs.
§ Sir B. Smith:I am not altogether clear as to the information which the hon. Member desires. It may, however, be sufficient for his purpose to state that a saving of 16 per cent. in the bread consumption of this country would provide an additional 10,000 tons a week of animal feeding stuffs upon the assumption that the wheat so saved were used for this purpose either in the form of grain or of milling offals produced by a reduction in the flour extraction rate.
